so sorry to hear of your unhappiness Africa and also your physical discomfort with all the utilities going out. Have faith and enjoy those things that you can. Prayers for you and all, and especially for those in distress.
Don we all love each other dearly and at least we can choose our friends and ignore our family.and thanks to a falling tree we no longer have a landline and modern technology lets us push the block button. I really have no time for the selfish and the self righteous but I needed a break and if Muhammad was not going to the mountain the mountain was coming to Muhammad as the saying goes. I am back in my happy place and catching up on the rest I needed. Between the water problems and the load shedding even getting meals done was becoming stressful and on our own everybody just sometimes makes a sandwich when no power. My Sister has no load shedding as her house is on the same grid as where parliament sits when it is in Pretoria and a major hospital and they have no water problems to speak of at present. Our water was gone again for most of today but seems to be back and hopefully the weather report is right and temperature will drop about 12 degrees by tomorrow as it has been uncomfortably hot with 100% humidity. I will probably go back and work in the Library 2 mornings a month from next month which is something I liked to do and have really got out of contact with many acquaintances that passed through regularly. Was off duty with Ian's stroke and was just about to go back when my Mom had to be moved so it has been a long time and I would like to do a bit again while I still can as each year one seems to be able to do much less than the year before. I don't do any big shopping on my own anymore as I simply cannot lift heavy bags and we usually buy milk in bulk and freeze and that bag is heavy.
I am convinced we are living in the last days and if so; all the other stuff doesn't much matter. I hope you get back to your library work, I know you really enjoyed that.
I have been wanting to ask about Ian; is he improving any? I remember him in my prayers as the Holy Spirit prompts. Is Joz's band still playing? I know I heard them, I think on FB but I got rid of that cesspool about a year ago so I can't follow.
Going to make this short - gotta go and take a nap...zzzzzzzzzzzz
@Don Ian is fine other than being overweight - he made a good recovery but some of the damage is permanent especially with balance - he can no longer climb a ladder. Thankfully he sold the motorbike. It also makes you think as he said when recovering that you start to appreciate things you just took for granted as small as putting a cup down on a table as you had to think while doing it. Joz is no longer playing with the band but has someone who comes around once a week and they enjoy some music together. He played professionally for 50 years and enjoyed the odd gig now and again but really wasn't interested in doing it regularly. Getting a bit past carrying equipment and having to pack it back up in the wee hours and the others were not really seasoned musicians so at times he turned up to drown the mistakes. Get asked often when he is coming back and I just say retired but it was more frustrated and wasn't really enjoying it. Hope the family in Puerto Rica are managing although they still shaking but we are praying it comes to an end and they can rebuild. New Zealand has had a few shakes in the last few weeks but no damage although felt. The earth is definitely moving at present. Facebook has its uses one can stay out of the cesspool and I am very picky who I have on mine. We use it to follow with electricity and water problems. I do my fund raising for the Library selling the books on it. I popped a tire when I cut the sidewall on one so that was a bit of an expensive pothole. Had rained and when full of water and in the shade sometimes don't see them in time and 2 deep craters so close together I just didn't make the small gap between them. Can't have your eyes on the road all the time when you have a vehicle in front and behind. Our main road into town if you need to go to the shops on it and can't use the highway is a nightmare of potholes and leaking water pipes. Most repairs are so shoddy if they done don't last longer than 3 months before the hole is back bigger and better. We have had good rain so the rainwater tank is full so we count our blessings.
Joy: I wish more than anything that you could see God for who He is. Simply put, in His word He says that He desires that NONE perish but that all would come to repentance, that is, to be reconciled back to the relationship He had with Adam and Eve before the fall. Joy ... GOD LOVES YOU!!!
You have faith to believe that tomorrow the sun will rise but not in the one that created the universe. Please don't hold this against me; it is because I love you dearly that I say what I do. Shirley knows exactly what I am talking about.
I am so sorry to hear that Don and we pray for your family's safety and many others. We are also praying for those affected in the fires in Australia it seems one disaster after the other. I know your Mom-in-law came to live with you and am assuming she is still with you. Please correct me if I am wrong. Looking at Haiti 10 years on seems much of the aid money has never benefited those in need. We usually give through Gift of the Givers as they see that the money is used where needed not that our currency is worth much out of the country so usually stick to local giving where needed. Gradually catching up on things as I had very limited internet while I was away so other than whatsapp was not looking at much else. I am safely back home just let us say my visit to my Sister was thoroughly unpleasant but the 2 days spent with my inlaws and time with my children and grandchildren made up for it. We left a day early after a lot of unpleasantness so I never stayed for the birthday but my Mom would not have noticed. I thought I would just settle her in but the road to hell is paved with good intentions - with hindsight I should just have dropped her off and left but it pales in significance with those that have lost everything so merely an update. Please keep us updated on what is happening thanks Don
Things down there are so very sad. Praying for your nephew and all those who suffer. We all know how their last disaster was so badly handled by their own government. Such a shame.
On December 28th - ironically my birthday - Puerto Rico began to have a series of 5.0 and higher - as much as 6.9 earthquakes along with countless aftershocks.
There is what is known as the Puerto Rico rift which is a pressure ridge between the two major faults which I believe is the North American and Caribbean faults. The rift is centered about eight miles southwest of the westernmost part of the island which is where my wife is from and her mom has a house there. Her middle brother is living there. All the homes are damaged and too dangerous to live in; they are all living in tents outdoors. According to the Puerto Rican Governor, it's business as usual in San Juan. She should be sent to Yauco or Ponce or somewhere on the SW part of the island.
This is not just about family but there are countless people in the same condition as we are who need oxygen and medicine to live.

Omigosh!
Don, so sorry to break your heart, but this is exactly why I have trouble trusting in God. Why do nature-driven bad things happen to good people?
Shirley, I love you. You have a family just like mine.

Just ranting I guess.
