Spring has sprung and the grass has ris.............. well the grass may be rising but Spring is lurking somewhere else. We have had some good rain but other than one or two days that have been nice and warm the socks have not been packed away yet. With the world being in a turmoil with wild weather we had our turn on Saturday when Irma's little cousin paid us a an unexpected visit and even the weathermen were napping. Was a lovely calm day when it started getting darker and darker from the South where no good weather arrives from and the wind got up and we had what I suppose qualifies as a tropical storm about half the wind speed of a hurricane as you would call it, a cyclone as we would call it and a typhoon if you lived in the East. Fortunately my trees are still standing although branches were ripped off the palms and and I had one roof tile broken from a flying branch which I have yet to discover where it came from. Doesn't look like any of my trees leaves. We are counting our blessings as there was huge damage all over with roof sheets flying, huge trees either totally uprooted or large branches ripped off. We lost our windbreak with the Bluegum plantation being cleared behind us so it is open for miles inland and we are on probably one of the highest points about a mile and a half as the crow flies from the ocean. As I have a few really big trees close to the house it would be a calamity if any of them toppled.
Roads have been once again closed several times with rioters and the water woes continue all over but it hasn't been our turn this time but others are on day 5 of no water and again it has been the Muslim Community that has been delivering free water to the old and sickly. Not much effort on the on the part of the Municipality to deliver although minimal supply by roving tankers have been doing the rounds they are hard to find and are often way up the road before anyone can stop them. Never know where they will pop up either as no schedule is ever given so it is lucky dip if you find them. But life goes on and I would rather have a few inconveniences than be in the path of a hurricane or an earthquake.
Hi Everybody - I emailed Laura (Cardinal) but I never got a reply. She was having computer blues so I hope she is OK. Hopefully she may post here.
