Sister_Petra, thank you for your concern. Yes, I have several medications for my COPD. The steroid component in Advair is supposed to prevent inflammation in the bronchial tract. I have not had Acute bronchitis since I have been on it. Hope not to ever have that version again.
The last time I had an informal walk test in the hallway at our rural clinic my oxygen saturation only went down to 91 and I gather it has to be 88 or below before Medicare will pay for it . I do check saturation with oxymeter from time to time when concerned about it. And I do have that big black not-yet-used Devilbliss concentrator should I ever truly need it. The medical supply house I ordered it from did not require a prescription. A number of these units are used in "Oxygen Bars" for public entertainment.
Wishing you and all our friends here a Happy New Year.
Joy, I don't understand why you are not on oxygen given your situation. Medicare pays for it. Ask your doc about getting a prescription. With oxygen you can tolerate a lot more exertion without becoming breathless. Are you not receiving any treatment for your bronchitis? No nebulized meds, etc?
Sandy, no I do not use oxygen from a machine. I did get an oxygen concentrator a couple of years ago with the intent to use it for exercise, just never got around to using it. My COPD is mostly caused by chronic bronchitis although I have had the acute version several times. When that happens I feel like my entire breathing passages have been scalded with boiling water or something. And I cannot even walk down the soap powder aisle at the grocery store as even a faint scent feels so irritating.
Since 2014 through collected statistic reports, I have watched the total yearly steps walked decline and I am only doing about half the activity I was able to do a short five years ago. I love retirement and I love sitting in my chair all day with a laptop, but doing so is literally killing me. I must try harder.
Sandy, I hope you are getting better and are able to do some exercises soon, as you wish. I am so sorry to hear that Evert has it, too. I especially hope you will be able to go to your granddaughter's wedding in March.
not totally sure, but I think M'care requires them to do this if they have a company in the town you are visiting. Also, go online and look for OXYGEN TO GO. They specialize in portables, but may also have info on oxygen sources for those who require more oxygen than a portable can generate
In the long run, probably cheaper to rent portable from your own DME if you can use one.
Thanks sister Petra I will call them and see what they say not sure they are the most helpful and they are on the backside of the 5 year I have heard about . Joy do you use Oxygen it seems to me You are able to do more than I can , maybe its all the exercising you did before.
Enjoy all of the posts I hope to get to doing a few exercises of some kind soon, this bronchitis drug me down royally , my husband has it also and he takes care of me, with the meds I have been taking have been able to get rid of a little mucus each day. I have cancelled all of my doctors appointments till April although I may have to get in to see the lung doctor as I cancelled it early Nov. I did want to go to my granddaughters wedding in March, but I just don't know its in Okla. ( How to go about extra oxygen I am more of a mouth breather.)
Thank you Don, for allowing me to start a post. I never know when to use those terms, either, I want to congratulate you on getting back with the program. You know what happens if you let too much time slide by. Back at the bottom of the hill again.
With the holidays, memorial service for my cousin's husband, and spending extra time with her lately, I too, am back climbing the hill again. So scatterbrained from events that I have forgotten my meds on several occasions. And if I cannot keep my heart rate down I dare not exercise. Missed getting my snail badge this past week by only 233 steps.
Am going with one cousin to another cousin's New Years Eve celebration tomorrow night. I promise to get back into the swing as soon as I can. All this extra activity has been fairly stressful.

Sandy, your DME should work this out for you through a DME in the town you will be visiting.

WOW! it's been a long time since my last post. Been laying low babying some stomach pains.
Here's today's stuff:
10 counter push-ups
25 arm curls
10 bicep curls
10 shoulder presses
12 spring hand grips
7 rounds of 2 minutes at 1 mph.
25 wrist/forearm curls
Joy: Please feel free to start a post if it's been a while and you have some things you want to share.
By the way - I never know when to use "a while" or "awhile."
