I kept going back to COPD International hoping someone would start another site. I didn't post much, but got tons of good information from the old site. Anyway, I've been on O2 now for 10 years. I have noticed some loss of stamina over the years. I used my treadmill until I got sick and just could not keep my stats up. We've have a lot of smoke in the air from fires in the west. I live in northern Colorado where the smoke has migrated to lately. I'm sure that's what got me!!
Went through different antibiotic and finally a ZPAC helped. But my cough is still here. I wish it would rain and clean the air. I'll stop my rambling now. Thank you for the new site!
In the interest of saving storage and bandwidth, I deleted the comments that contained screenshots.
DON, THANK YOU!! The buttons at the top make navigating MUCH easier.I do have the "useless incomprehensible" panel on the right, but the tabs make it workable. Wix should have the cross~platform stuff down much better. I don't know why they don't test it out thoroughly. Take care of biz, people!
Hope that helped you too, Sharon.
It's a huge improvement Don, thanks for the work you do on this site!
The tab that you don't see is the "Home" tab; just a little info about the site.
I will leave these screenshots up for a while but I will have to delete them soon since this is a free site, we have a very limited amount of storage and bandwidth and graphics eat up a lot of resources. Glad this works for you, hope David is also now able to access the tabs.
Just finished, refresh nad let me know if it works.
Well, so far it hasn't changed on my end. I got rid of my "today's history" on the internet, logged out of this
site, then logged back in. Maybe I need to give a while longer. Regardless of what happens, I'll keep coming
back here. I appreciate all that you do Don, thank you!!
OK - Here goes.....
Oh my gosh, maybe that could work, thanks for trying Don!!
Hi Don, and thanks lots. There's no "Contact us" tab at the top, the formatting of this site doesn't work well on my Mac, the whole page doesn't show. Weird. Anyways, my email is mistrike@gmail.com. My name's David. I'll get back later, but wanted to say thanks for being here to you and others.
Welcome Mistrike; so glad you found our little group. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have as you say you are new to this. No medical experts here; just years of experience.
Please go to the top of the page and on the left there is a tab marked "Contact Us." I hope you will provide your email address in the event there are issues with this site. Wel lost many members from our old site when it went down suddenly. You can also use that form to address any problems you may have using the site.
Welcome to our group Mistrike. I hope you will find helpful information here.
I have just got back from a week at high altitude - I thought I may have problems as there have been a lot of heat waves with the temperature around 100 for days. With the unusual weather we have had with the continual rain and dampness it had a negative affect for a while but with the air being so dry up country it seemed to actually improve and didn't have to increase any of the medications - that said I am still not going to be running anywhere. So happy you found this group in time as I popped back this morning to COPDI to see if any more lost sheep and the message boards seem to have been removed.
Wow Sharon, you have such drive! I admire you for that! I'm new to this and haven't been able to muster much fight, but then I don't know the disease very well. I have a pretty substantial cough (intermittent, but I've had it for a week now and hate it!). It's great to read upbeat stories, yours and others. Thanks!
That's wonderful! I was hospitalized in 2008 for respiratory failure. They did everything to get my O2 levels above 85%. I was 70% when admitted. I was released when I reached 90%. I worked very hard with exercise and a stationary bicycle. I also used a visualization meditation of healthy lungs. After a year, I was cleared and was able to go off O2. That lasted about three years and I was back on O2. I'm hoping I can still be off oxygen at lower altitudes.
I used to live 4300ft above sea level in a city. We retired early 13 years ago to sea level and a small village with no pollution and it made a huge difference. I have managed so far to stay off oxygen. Doctors here aren't keen on oxygen unless all medication makes no difference.
I do look forward to our trips to see my father-in-law. He lives in Lake Havasu, AZ. I think they are around 500" in elevation. I get a once a year break (from O2) when we visit him.
It would be great if you could get off of 02. That would be something to look forward too.
Thanks for the welcome Audrey! I don't have much of a choice of where I live right now. My husband is hoping to retire soon, but that could be a bit away. When that happens, we plan on RVing around the country.
Most of the time here we don't have so much smoke, but this year has been bad for Montana and other western states. What also gets to me here is the elevation, just shy of 6,000ft. Didn't bother me until my COPD kicked in. When we travel to elevations 3,000ft or less, I can go without O2 and keep up my stats.
Welcome to this site mnsane. Glad that linked worked on the old COPDI forum. I know that I would not be able to live in a fire and smoke area. I am in the very severe stage and even cooking odors and outdoor grilling bother me.
I found this site by frequently going to the old copd message board. That's where I saw the link for this site. I just started back on the treadmill. Got to work back up to where I was. The smoke has cleared enough that I can go out and play with my dog, yipee!! I hope the rest of the folks look there too. Again, thanks for being here :)
We are hoping a lot of our lost flock will check on COPDI . Hope the fires will be contained and the smoke dies down. They burn sugar cane in our area but usually it onlt lasts a few days and they are not allowed to burn if it is windy.
We're thrilled too! SO glad you found our new site. How did you find us? Jeral's site went down so suddenly that I only had 20 members email addresses.
If you have any problems with the site or any questions at all just use the contact us for.
Get back on that treadmill. As you know, exercise is our best weapon (along side our med's and o2) against this disease. If your stats are getting to low, try upping your lpm's while exercising.
That smoke is definately not good. You might consider a humidifier to offset the dry indoor air, especially in the cold dry weather.
