After a rollercoaster on meds for the last 6 weeks that were for my back not my lungs I am getting a bit wary of what Doctors willy, nilly prescribe and have binned 3 lots because of the terrible side effects. I am also busy changing Doctors as really annoyed when he said he was giving me something for the pain and it had awful side effects and after doing a bit of homework found out it was an anti-depressant that has been found helpful for back pain. Most anti-depressants have nasty and some serious side effects and as he dispenses himself you never get a pamphlet with it. So I now still have a painful back but I do have a really effective pain killer for that but I limit it to when absolutely necessary - I now no longer have the headache from hell, nausea or fluid retention. Always good to read the pamphlet once you are having problems not before lol and then even better to read the reviews - here is a link to Coricidin Milly - hope you are feeling a lot better soon and enjoy the family while they are there https://www.drugs.com/coricidin.html
I spoke to a PA a couple of days ago. She told me to drink some fluids and tske Coricidin. My daughter is here for three weeks with her two children and it has been wxtremely hectic. Hsven't had the mind set to concentrate on the mrds including spiriva. I keep forgeting to take it. Today i feel wprse, a bit nauseous and week.
Along with the gallons of water and mucinex expectorant, you should use an acapella if you have one; if not, it's a worthwhile investment. The water and the mucinex kinda liquifies the mucous but you still need to shake it off the lungs to get it out; that's where the acapella comes in.
Don, bite the bullet and start drinking more water. It's easy, cheap, and makes all parts of our bodies work better and helps us get rid of toxins. BTW, I drink a glass of tonic water everyday to help with muscle cramps. I don't think one glass would be hurtful, Petra.
Have you seen an Eye, Ear and nose dr. I was having trouble swallowing food. Not so bad but it would go down with a lot of extra space to glide easily. The dr; said to use the saline, I did but the problem persisted. He used a probe and said he didn't see anything wrong and to continue to use the saline. Long story short I went to him a third time and he assured me all was ok. So I contined with the saline and it did clear and I could swallow comfortably again. I think my sinuse were all clogged up from 11 years of using the 02 and it took its toll on my nose.
I think it might be worth a trip to the Eye, Ear and nose dr.
Sorry I got carried away with Dons mention of sinuses. This will be of no help to him. He's looking for relief of a tightness in his chest.
hold the mustard or horseradish against the roof of your mouth for as long as you can
Best Chinese mustard recipe: 1teaspoon Coleman's Dry Mustard powder, 3-4 drops soy sauce and enough water to make a paste. Stir with chopstick and let stand 10 min. Prepare to shed tears
Now you're talking about my most favorite spice on planet earth. I always keep some Chinese hot mustard on hand. It does work but just for a little while. I haven't had any horseradish in a long time, I use to like that on a sandwich; I'll have my wife pick some up next shopping day, - Thanks.
Totally agree with Audrey. Saline spray is harmless, but don't discontinue the Mucinix. You can get a generic guaifenesin cheaper. I have never been told anything about drinking water, but I suppose most any liquid, such as tea or coffee would suffice. Also, brew up a batch of super strong ginger tea. It's great with honey.. Just chop up the root and boil covered for a few min. Cover and let steep for about an hour. Strain out the solids and keep the concentrate in fridge and dilute to your taste. Great for most any ailment
I have had tightness in my chest and very severe sinus congestion for what seems forever. I'm not a big water drinker so I tend to stay away from things like Mucinex where you have to drink a ton of water for it to work.
However; two days ago out of desperation, I took a 1200 mg Mucinex expectorant. Later I just happened to check my peak-flow meter and my number spiked to 350 liters from an average of 200 to 250. Sadly, I couldn't repeat the numbers. The tightness seemed a little less but soon came back and another 1200 mg the next day didn't produce the same results.
As for my sinuses; nothing works except nasal sprays and you're not supposed to use those more than 3 days.

First questio, what is an acapella?

I forgot to mentionI that this problem has come with a terrible cough that is driving me crazy!
I think im having similar problems with my sinus. I know there is mucus but it is pretty tight.
Some came up yesterday and it was clear. Some more today and it was white.
I'll be calling the dr. Tomorrow to see if i can get a prescription for an antibiotic. Any advice?

don't know your tolerance for hot/spicy, but Chinese hot mustard will REALLY drain those sinuses as will horseradish or wasabi. Only takes a little.
Thanks ladies. I do use the nasal wash (not spray) and it doesn't seem to do anything. I may have to hunt down the spray version and try that.
I am using a generic mucinex (I don't know how to spell guaif......).
Never tried the ginger root tea, sounds like it would be worth a try.

CHEERS!!!
Why not try a saline nasal spray. You can use it has often as needed. You still need plenty of water to thin mucous for your chest though.

Bottom line - I need help!
